We want to manufacture an insulation material bases on silica aerogels. Before drying it is necessary to make a solvent exchange step for three times. These steps are time-consuming and increase the final costs of the product dramatically. I understand that the solvent exchange process is absolutely required when you must do a supracritical drying with CO2. But is this necessary when you will do an ambient pressure drying in an oven or a microwave cavity? Maybe it affects the porosity, but I have no experience concering this matter. Did anyboby investigate the ambient pressure drying with and without solvent exchange? Any information will be helpful for me.

Thanks Eberhard
