I have a question regarding the peer-review publication of socio-ecological studies that involve participatory methodologies and questionnaires or surveys and therefore are involving human beings' participation to elicit information for the research.

Regarding the EU guidelines (attached) if the risk is assessed as minimal risk (surveys and questionnaires re not on the list of risky approaches) there is no need for obtained any review form a Research Ethical Committee.

But how this risk is assessed and where? My study is on 5 different European countries.. therefore, shall I get an assessment and ratification from the institution at each country?

Also, checking ethical guidelines from the journals I have found that they ask for a statement of the authors regarding they have complied with the ethical guidelines... is this statement need any further documentation or the identification of the REC or institution that did the assessment?

Thank you for your time,
