i am going to do research by using Super absorbent polymers to retain soil moisture but i got polymer in baby diaper. Is it good polymers for research?
Dear Jaber Hussain, it used for decades in the agriculture field, to retain irrigation water close to the plant roots and avoid water loss by filteration and evaporation. Just search for hydrogels used in this application. Generally, most of them are modified polyacrylamides. My Regards
The biodegradation of a 13C labelled cross-linked polyacrylate has been studied in different agricultural soils and temperatures. The results suggested that the polyacrylate backbone was degraded at rates of 0.12–0.24% in 6 months (Wilske et al., 2014). So it might be better to go more easily biodegradable polymers that are environmentally friendly.
