I am in USA with dependent visa (cant work). By next year, I planned to change my visa type to work here. When I searched about the career scope here in life science, everyone asked me to get into IT field as it is easy to obtain visa. Getting visa in biotech or life science is so difficult or sometimes you may not get the visa......This was the information I heard from all....?Is it true....????????
it depends on how specialized in the field you are. The more expertise you have, the easier it is for you to obtain visa. A lot of companies do not offer sponsorship. I mean...if there are two people with the exact same qualifications, i would pick the one who doesn't need sponsorship. However, if you have the specialty that was needed for the job and you are irreplaceable...then yes, i would sponsor you
I agree with Lu, a lot depends on your potential and expertise. If you don't have to live in the US for too long you can think of J1, which is valid for 5 years and once being on J1 you can convert to H1. Directly getting H1 will be too difficult in both academia and industry.
My Dear Dhanya I will say not really, it depends on your skills and also the specialization of your work. Be focused in your specialized field and work in some lab even without payment i mean voluntarily if allowed in some project. I think those recommendations will work.
1. It also depends on which category of jobs, 'general jobs' or 'an advanced degree job', you are looking for. An advanced-degree job such as working as a postdoc in a university seems easier than the 'general ones' to obtain it. For 'general category', every year we can see that very fast the USCIS will receive sufficient number of H-1B petitions to reach the statutory cap for the fiscal year (FY). So, a lot of people would apply for it as soon as H1B application date starts.
2. The quotas for both are different too. For example, the FY 2015: A computer-generated process will randomly select the number of petitions needed to meet the caps of 65,000 visas for the general category and 20,000 under the advanced degree exemption.
