Hi everyone, I have results for the water samples that I ran over the last few seasons. I want to evaluate the water quality using Weighted Arithmetic Index Method developed by Brown et al., 1972.
As mentioned in my question, is it correct if I use some of the metal concentrations analyzed to help calculate the water quality index for my samples?

Yes. Metal such as Pb, Cd and others could pose health risk at concentration above the permissible limit. TDS indicates the level of dissolved substances: organic and inorganic. So, these parameters could be used in the determination of water quality index.
I think for the calculation of WQI, you need to analyze more basic physicochemical parameters. The present parameters are very few and can not be helpful in giving a representative WQI of the sample...Do the basic characterization first, then go for WQI.
Yes so far you have their standards like Nigerian Standard for Drinking Water Quality 2015. Though the number of parameters are few, it will still give you an idea about the potability of the water samples. Thank you .
