You are attending a course where in one subject you are expected to write a report/ a thesis. Some students are requested/ suggested tasks that are clearly more time consuming than the tasks requested others. The difference is huge and might require from the students one more year to finish the course. Is this acceptable?
Dear Sandra, I had such an experience. In one class students have to select a real scientific paper from the list given by professor and to present it in class. Papers are clearly different in complexity, but I was giving information about their level of difficulty (1, 2 or 3). Higher perfection in presentation was required for an easier paper. But in the end, a student who tried with a difficult paper became more prepared for a future scientific work. Although it costed him/her more work to get a good grade.
Thanks for you contribution Yuri Yegorov. In this particular case we are discussing extremes. For example: some students perform a statistical analysis and write a report on data from a database, while others go to the field to collect data from a huge area (not suited to be done by a single person), which will later on be maped by the student after he finishes building a database, and then also be object of a statistical analysis, and a written report.
