I agree with Beatrice, it is better to publish in anothet journal. However, if the work is original and good I dont think it will be unacceptable ethically

It seems OK if the paper goes through a regular process of reviewing. Editors are often writing editorials that are also a kind of publication, and sometimes editorials are cited, so why not publish an article in the same journal that they are editing ?
In spite of the due process for the paper written by the Editor of the journal, some people might doubt the process. Therefore, the Editor should better publish her paper in a different journal.
Nothing wrong in publishing like this if transparency in the standard review procedure is guaranteed. However, editor must avoid creating conflicts of interest, which may be possible if the editor can manage to not only avoid handling the manuscript at any stage, but also avoid other editorial staff having knowledge that the manuscript is from the editor.
On the other hand, the (genuine) editor may have very good insights and experience in the domain, and the journal will be benefited by the editor’s contributions. In one way, it is good for journal (but may not be good for editor in public eyes).
