Researchers such as Jim Cummins (2001) or Bilge and Hill Collins (2020), among others, affirm the importance of linking practice with theory. As an educator, the self is an important part of practice and so it is normal for me to draw on personal experience to enrich my research. Does this make my writing subjective? Yes, but then again, is there really objectivity in qualitative research? Is this really a bad thing?
No, it is good for increasing the number of citations. It is good to connect privious researches with current research.

No it is fine in a qualitative research. if your experiences are related to the work you are doing then it is good to subject your opinions, experiences and observations. But it is highly recommended to minimize your bias and prejudice at the same time especially in historical research. Your ideas must be logical, nicely represented and maintain technical language while writing.
There is a current trend towards including "positionality" statements in articles that used qualitative research. I have not see any consensus on where such statements should be placed, however.

Andrée Lévesque I should have specified that by self I meant using practical life experience to support an idea that one needs to get across, in line with a particular theory - I am referring to language teaching, perhaps this is different in other fields. I’m still not sure I would put myself in my research projects. But I agree with Shoaib Mohammad that if the personal experience is directly related to research, had an impact on it, then I would make an exception. Too often the subject is intrusive.
This feels very much against all academic "training" I've had prior to my most recent studies, but in my own sociologically-based courses, I've been encouraged to insert myself personally more into my papers than I ever had been in previous programmes.
(Personally, I love this development - I think it's terribly useful to understand what motivates the researchers, because it helps to clarify certain positions that may otherwise seem ambiguous without additional context.)
Ealas De Saussure I see your point. I think we can learn from personal experience, which is the practice that informs the theory. I don't see why we should limit 'objectivity' to sharing other people's experiences, which may not directly clarify our perception of the idea we want to put forward. Again, this is debatable; it may not apply to the hard sciences, but it certainly applies to the social sciences. Ealas De Saussure the academic training that you received might have been centred on a particular context, In my opinion, the reference to personal experience is even more important in the field of sociology;-).
