Madhukar Baburao Deshmukh ukar Baburao Deshmukh I am making a few observation in some crop water requirements. Due to relative humidity fluctuations in field conditions I recommend you to try several irrigation intensities/practices.
Dear Rajish! I think water requirement in sugarcane is higher in sugarcane than the other crops. The produce we,re interested in from sugarcane is the juice, which is high in water content. Sugarcane also grows in hot climates and there is high evapo-transpiration. Of course sugar cane is a C4 crop with high water use efficiency. If you want to exactly compare which one of the crops you mentioned need less water, you need to determine their water use efficiency. Water-use efficiency (WUE) of productivity (also called integrated water-use efficiency), which is typically defined as the ratio of biomass produced to the rate of transpiration, could give the answer. Beware that WUE is a function of environment and plant factors, differences among varieties of the same crop species.
Sugarcane is long duration crop (9 to 12 months) and the overall per month water requirement of sugarcane is high as compared to other crops such as wheat, chickpea etc. (rabi season crops) and cotton, maize, pearl millet, sorghum, pigeonpea, mungbean etc. (kharif season crops). However, water per month requirement of sugarcane is less as compared to paddy.
