The instability of binary granular soils plays a major role in the Geotechnical Engineering field which it could be studied in laboratory through series of cyclic and static triaxial compression tests. Indeed, to combine and compare the experimental results with the numerical results including differents softwares. In this context, Is FLAC 3D better software that could be used for modelling the undrained instability of binary granular soils?
Yes, FLAC3D software is good in simulating the behaviour of granular material. Also, many publication are there related to this topic using FLAC3D software.
As Behzad said, DEM is very feasible for modelling granular soils but also FLAC3D is suitable for this end. Anyway, it depends on your aim. If you're gonna track the motion of every single particle, DEM turns to be the only useful tool. otherwise, you can use FLAC3D.
Could I know is it possible to define the compression and tension strength in FLAC3D ?
