I had my BSc in Physics, MSc and PhD in Energy System Engineering. I worked as a assistant lecturer and a lecturer for three years teaching different maths courses, statistics and Physics. I had to move from where I was lecturing before because of my family and now I am in search of a Lecturing or Post-Doc opportunity. Most of the job adverts I see are more specific on a particular field. I am beginning to wonder if my diversification is a disadvantage.
Also, if there is a post-doc or lecturing opportunity at your university, I won't mind applying.

I think that diversification in the academia is a fantastic trend. Actually this year in my university it was announced as "the
year of diversification" of combining research fields. Diversification actually allows for creativity and innovation.
Yes it is an excellent way to expand your knowledge and to be more creative. I did my PhD in plant pathology, study molecular biology and biophysics, did cancer research and later on hormone regulation of specific genes and epigenetics (in total 5 different institutes and laboratories)
These days researchers become diversified in their research area and it becomes a necessity in the present scenario.
Paul: I think diversification is a positive attribute. At my university, if a professor is qualified to teach more than one field, they are more valuable to the department, college and university. In fact, when we interview a new applicant, we value the ability to teach in more than one field. Best of luck to you!
