Plastic responses, range shifts and community-composition changes of trees and understory vegetation to global change drivers have been recently reported worldwide. However, confidence in attributing the share of such biotic responses to contemporary climate change (CCC) solely is still very weak due to other global-change drivers (e.g., land-use changes, natural disturbances, biological invasions, nitrogen depositions) mitigating or amplifying these biotic responses. Quantifying the relative importance and interactions of CCC with other global-change drivers on recent biotic responses is a challenging and timely issue. What is the current state-of-the-art in research to untangle this issue? Are there any novel methods out there? What are your opinions and how would you rate the importance of CCC compare to other global-change drivers?
