In the last two years have been published about 5 original articles that describe the equation to calculate Apolipoprotein B from various other 2 - 3 - 4 lipid parameters. Does anyone have experience using the calculated Apo B in clinical practice or research?
Do you mean LDLApoB? For that, you need at least to measure total apoB...
I have not seen such calculations but doubt that this can be done accurately.
No, I mean the total Apo B. One of the five publications, for example, is Cho et al, Estimation of plasma apolipoprotein B concentration using routinely measured lipid biochemical tests in apparently healthy Asian adults, Cardiovas Diabetol, 2012, 11:55.
I would not rely on it, mainly if you are using apoB for research purpose... Even if it's for clinical purpose, I'd only use it if LDL is measured, and not calculated by Friedwald Formula.
I do not believe Apo B measurement for research or clinical purposes- Formulas are calculated by estadistical methods and do not be applied to individual subjects or research studies.
The Apolipoproteins seem to be related to lipids and cholesterol. They are biochemical substances with important medical applications. I do not know if they can be characterized structurally since it seems to be primarily in liquid form. Of power obtained in solid form; maybe it could be studied the crystal structure of the different kinds of existing Apolipoproteins. It is an interesting work of structural biochemistry.

you can determine the content of ApoB in LDL directly through a simple and easy colorimetric protein assay as ApoB-100 comprises >95% of total protein in LDL. ApoB also exists in chylomycrons and VLDL, but if you're interested on inferring the content of ApoB based on triglycerides and cholesterol then please beware it will be an estimated value. To date, it is not yet fully understood what are the structural features in OxLDL responsible for its atherogenicity, whether it's modifications to the protein or lipid moieties that activate macrophages and formation of foam cells. In general, I only have interest in finding out whether somewhere in the world are in practice - clinical or epidemiological - used knowledge that have been described in the Cho et al, 2012, Hermans et al, 2011, Hwang et al, 2012, Raitakari et al, 2013, articles.
