From your research, can you determine whether the alkannin/shikonin HPLC profiles for Lithospermum erythrorhizon are sufficiently distinct to be used for identification? There is a need in industry to identify / authenticate the source of botanical extracts obtained through different vendors of this material (and also other species) for potential commercial applications. If so, could you suggest a publication or provide LC profiles? Thank you
If you have the standards of your compounds of interest I suggest to use LC-MS as a first approach to characterise them. In this approach you will have the retention time and the m/z information, if you have ambiguous or non conclusive results, you may use LC-MS/MS to have the first two parameters mentioned before, and in addition you will have the fragmentation pattern (that is specific for most of the compounds studied up to today).
