I was very interested in this question because it made me think more deeply about the implications of the use of AI by students in various disciplines. Therefore, I would like to contribute a few thoughts of my own.

I think it's important to think about the use of AI in studying in two ways - either we can think of AI as a teacher or someone who does our homework, writes essays, etc. for us. This question is obviously very complicated and could be discussed for hours. However, I think it is important to mention just this.

AI (specifically ChatGPT) is, in my opinion, very helpful and useful when there are a lot of students in a classroom and a more individual approach is lacking (the teacher cannot answer every question, cannot give a lot of space to children who are slower), because AI can anywhere and anytime explain to the student any information he/she did not understand during the lesson. This is by no means to say that AI can completely replace the teacher. But I see it as a very available substitute in times of crisis. Because often parents (I witness this quite often in the Czech Republic) are not able to help their child. With this tool, children who might otherwise be falling behind can improve and it can lead to better academic performance overall. Working with AI can be fun, which is why I think the volume of facts memorized can be higher.

If we think of AI as a tool that does things for us, it can be quite detrimental, in the sense that students may stop thinking critically and blindly rely on AI to guarantee their academic and subsequently career success.

On the other hand, I don't think that ChatGPT in particular is necessarily just harmful. Sometimes we just don't know how to properly grammatically phrase our idea, and AI can save us time in this, which we can then invest in revising and improving our work. In this case, however, we need to cite AI as a resource and acknowledge its use. Under such conditions, this might be okay. On the other hand, turning in a paper that was written entirely by AI doesn't seem okay to me. AI cannot completely replace human originality. And I believe that originality will be increasingly valued in the future.

I believe that we need to talk about AI tools - a lot and openly, and spread a kind of awareness. Frankly, I do not know how primary schools, for example, deal with this issue here. When I was in primary school, computer science lessons were very limited in content. If no one had taught me about the use of artificial intelligence today, I suppose I would have very little conscience about using it in my written work.

To conclude, awareness is the key to responsible use.

Whether the use of AI in education will be, in a positive or negative sense, will depend on those who apply it, from policy makers to the final realization. I'm a bit old fashion man, for me there is no teaching, and therefore no education without the classic triangle: teacher-book-student; arrange them in whatever order you want, I'm not complaining.
