We have recently bought a Waters I-class UPLC system. I have heard that some columns from other manufacturers do not fit the Waters column inlet fitting. I nearly killed the ferrule by doing a test connection to a Thermo column (ferrule got stuck).
Those using Phenomenex and Thermo columns on the system, do you simply change the PEEK ferrule to an appropriate one or swap out the whole fittings kit?
Hi Liyan. Usually any column can be attached to any LC, but you do need the right kind of adaptors to prevent leakage. You may ask Thermo to check for you, they should be able to provide you the appropriate ferrules/adaptors. .

We are using Thermo Viper fittings to be able to use other columns on our Waters UPLC systems.

Hi, Liyan. i do agree with Prashant's suggestions. We are also using columns from Thermo, Phenomenex & Agilent. You can use any column by selecting appropriate ferrules and adopters.

The column- end fittings on Waters systems and columns are (commonly- there are exceptions) 1/32" as opposed to the more common 1/16" used by Thermo, etc.
A lot of people swap to Viper Fittings to allow them to use non- Waters columns, Upchurch do an adapter (UH-630) if you need to go back to a Waters column.
