I proved that this tree fern possesses an antidiabetic activity and I want to know whether these plant possess any other medicinal properties.
Cyathea nilgiriensis Holttum, Cyathea crinita (Hook.) Copel, was found against five different microbial pathogens. It shows antibacterial and antifungal activity at three different concentrations viz., 25, 50 and 100 µg/ml. Bioassays
revealed that the plant extracts showed significant antimicrobial activity against Pseudomonas aureus and Klebsiella pneumonia and followed by L. lanceolatus against K. pneumonia and Aspergillus niger. It shows the inhibitory effect on four pathogens viz., P. aureus, K. pneumonia, A. niger and Fusarium sp. with the maximum inhibition in the highest concentration (100 µg/ml). Streptococcus sp. is resistant to all the tested plant extracts. Plant may possess insecticidal, antiparasitic, antiglycemic, anti-hyper cholesterol, anti-protozaon, anti-diabetic activities.
There are few antimicrobial reports, but antidiabetic is a very significant scientific find - is there is previous reports - you should go for phytochemical charecterisation studies for the bioactive compound.
I thank you very much for the answers that both of you have included. I go through phytochemical analysis and characterisation of those compounds identified in that plant whether it possess an antidiabetic activity or not. The results i got that this plant contains antidiabetic compounds. But like you said there are no previous reports and in 1977 Dhawan et al., studied and said that this tree fern has analgesic and antidiabetic activities.
as all total plant extracts possess several kinds of activity it is expedient to investigate adjacent effects. What do you mean by antidiabetic activity (I have not found this information at your page) - have you studied also the state of target organs (especially kidney) in diabetic animals treated with your plant preparation (our experience shows that the target organs may also benefit)
