Preference include: cross-country comparisons using regression-based empirical and statistical methodology but not case studies or surveys.

Preferably, regression because it quicker to run the analysis and to produce results.
The aim is to investigate the relationship among variables of interest and make conclusions based on the statistical significance of the results.
The particular topic of interest is still open for discussion among interested researchers. Also, I do not have to lead the work. Some else may want to do so.
The areas I identified earlier were my areas of interest not necessarily the area I want to study. My core specialty is loan loss provision (in accounting) and bank profitability (banking). Nonetheless, to keep it broad, topics in accounting (financial reporting) and topics in banking will be fine. It is open for discussion. Feel free to discuss this.

Next, in order to get better cooperation, there are two ways to go about this.
The first is to receive contribution to an existing working paper if the lead author feel he or she needs ideas or some other kind of contribution from other authors (international authors). You could share just the title of your current project (working paper) and state what contribution you desire. The contribution may range from obtaining data, performing empirical analysis using advanced statistical packages, adding robustness checks, proof-reading, helping with the organisation of the paper. If the lead author successfully find some useful input, the lead author could ask the contributors if they would like to join as co-authors. This approach is usually faster for those particularly interested in fast publishing.
The second approach involves beginning a new paper from the scratch. This would usually take time and would need some established means of communication among co-authors that are geographically dispersed. The authors will need to agree on how to go about it.
Either approach should work well if there is good organization.
