I am more than curious to the methodology being used has a defense of coercion, distress, or a few other possibilities. Are the ones being interrogated of sound mind, represented by legal counsel? Fear and intimidation are not unusual, but there are other interesting methods of developing interrogation results.
Hi Mark. Thank you for your question. I am not attempting to elicit false confessions, so in any study that entails an interview I use information-gathering techniques and all interviewers are informed on the principles of PEACE. What I am looking at is the behaviour of both interviewee and interviewer. That is, behaviours in the interviewee that could be interpreted as deceptive, or percieved to be indicative of guilt, even in these non-accusatory conditions. In the interviewer I am looking for behaviours that may indicate a guilt bias belief, or behaviours that are influencing the interviewee. The goal is to extrapolate my findings to what we currently know about false confessions in accusatory environments.
