What are the old and traditional methods for water purification in your country? Have you ever been able to control the authenticity of traditional methods and methods?
There was traditionally used settling and filtration by clothes in Iran for surface water and harvested rain water. But mostly they used ground water resources for drinking.
Apart from settling methods, you can use uv light, Sunlight, Alum (Calcium carbonate) and the new innovation by Electromagnetic field that i did a research on.
I think that the old and traditional ways of purifying water in my country are chlorination by using chlorine , sodium carbonate for the getting rid of the water hardness , also settling and sedimentation.
In my country, There is an ancient practice from the Vedic era, The people of our country used to throw copper coins into River bank as per Hindu Mythology, everybody know the antymicrobial properties of copper metal. As we used to throw the copper coins into the river as usual practice but this practice was suggested as responsiblity so that pure water could be avilable for every one.
Note: There was no Handpump and power pump, the major sources of fresh water were Rivers stream, Lakes, Springs and ponds etc....
I agree to Jusoh comment......" The most sustainable methods should be cost effective and low technology such as aeration, sedimentation, filtration and chlorination".
We have traditional methods like UV light disinfection, Solar disinfection and latest developed method by me use of EMF for disinfection, Moringa seed can also be used even the extract from tree like gum can be used for flocculation method.
