In the near past, some interesting websites were developed aiming to help researchers and students in the identification of species. Some of them were really good (despite not so completed as the ID books or original papers) and could be also used for didactic purposes. I was wondering if we could use this platform to share worldwide or more regional projects. I think that all of us can benefit with it. Take a look in those sites to illustrate it:

http://species-identification.org/identify_species.php (English; worldwide fauna and flora, but more complete for the North Atlantic and NE Atlantic).

http://www.biorede.pt/ (Portuguese; local project for the fauna and flora of the coast of Aveiro and the Ria de Aveiro, Portugal).

http://www.planktonchronicles.org/en (English, French, Spanish; worldwide plankton).
