Dear Eniola Damilola, to find out about the effect of climate change on groundwater, it is required to know about climate forcasting and of course, about the groundwater response. Note that not all of the groundwater will be affected by climate change, it is a time/space concept; regarding this issue, I would suggest you to read the paper below. Very nicely explained by Dr. Jose Joel. One has to understand the climatic variation in a given area and there on to estimate the effect/response on groundwater. As it is there will be variations in the groundwater condition in a given area with respect to time & space. Even there will be long duration variations in terms of groundwater levels and quality due to growing population; urbanization; industrialization; etc. So, one should be able differentiate these variations of groundwater condition with that of changes/variations in response to possible global climate changes.

As proposed by professor Prasad, and adding a few extra words to his concern on the variations in groundwater conditions he has actually referred to. The only way, sofar, to define which is the groundwater that might be affected by changes in the climatic conditions (ie, lesser precipitation) is by defining its various flow systems. That is the local, intermediate and regional groundwater flow systems. They differ in their path's length and depth of flow, which in turn are responsible of contrasting hydrogeological conditions not only of discharge but also in recharge areas. It is to note that regional flows are contrasting to local flows in their potential and possibly quality.
