In array the inter element spacing is taken between two feed lines of antenna or it should be between two sides of radiating patch? i have attached a figure below.
What i understand from array theory is that the inter element spacing should be between two radiating edges should be be 0.56 lambda to get the minimum sidelobes.

The distance between the patch antenna array elements is given from center line of the patch to the center line of the adjacent patch. As for the far field it originates from the edges of the patch. So, the edge to edge distance is that distance affecting the addition of the far field from the patches. So, this distance may be the intended distance.

Choose a suitable mathematical model of radiation like Fourier and see the influence of distances.
