One of the simplest membership functions ('triangular MF') does not require the mean (μ) and the standard deviation (σ). These symbols μ and σ, are common in the Gaussian function.

This figure shows the triangular MFs for 'input 1' and the Gaussian MFs for 'input 2'. But this is just ordinary 2D plotting for the math functions. The figure has nothing to do with the fuzzy controller at this point.
