To my knowledge the initial value problems mainly relate to network theory, such as a capacitor acts as a short circuit or as a voltage source at t = 0+ , an inductor acts as a open circuit or as a current source at t = 0+. The boundary conditions are mainly concerned with the electromagnetics, such as the conductor boundary has only the normal component of electric field, while at the dielectric boundary the tangential components of the electric fields are continuous.I would like to know what exactly you intend to do & what is your problem.
I want to see that whether it is possible to transform the equation of vibration of mass and spring in the existence of damper, which is one of the simplest equations in mechanical engineering and it is initial value problem, into a boundary value problem.
in my opinion, this question has two sides;
1- is this transformation possible?
2- does this transformation have physical concept?
