The human capital index is based on years of schooling and returns to education. Since development is tightly knit to education, will India - sooner or later - be the best among BRICS?
Agree that India is making a large investment in human capital, and little by little it will have a relevant role in the group of BRICs; but it will be until there is no longer so much discrepancy in education and satisfaction in quality of life among the different social castes. There is an abyss of economic, educational and cultural difference between the caste of the "unnameable" and the excessively rich
India has some big problems that inhibits it's capacity:
1. Unmanaged population growth where providing good health and education is very hard.
2. Caste-ism which divides the society and people are more conscious on reservation in government services than on corruptions.
3. Mass level copying on examinations to show good records of governments.
4. Fluidity in honesty where people are ready to accept bribes. Political parties distribute money to voters at the time of elections.
5. Larger economic gap between people and its representatives where politics is described as money-lords politics.
India started to grow after policy change during 1990s. Changes are necessary for a healthy system in India which I'd inevitable for being a leader at global horizon.
India has boundary problems with its neighbors. But I see the population growth and corruptions - as biggest challenge to the country. Over-populated society is fighting with nature. It is destroying natural habitats, rivers, trees and flowers which is necessary to be reversed.
Un-organized population is problem at the place of resource. But governments in India, are not sensitive to such ground issues, which are in favor of a strong India, strong world.
Dear Bishwajit, I agree with you to some extent that nature is affected due to total resources utilized and sometimes smaller population utilizes more resources. I also agree that population will be stabilized with time.
However, I would like to share happenings nearby my native village which has been shared on RG by me earlier too.
There is/was a small river near my village. Villagers situated at its origin, obstructed water flow from its parent river. A number of problems arise due to that including
1. Blockage of water flow from villages situated at its bank in/after rainy season, damaging crops in the fields.
2. Pollution of water due to growth of water hyacinth and waste water from villages.
3. Transportation problems between some villages as boats were used for transportion during rainy seasons.
4. Flood problems to some other villages.
5. Lack of availability of fresh fishes in nearby market.
Therefore, I wrote that people are fighting with nature and rivers.
Natural habitats are being destroyed at larger scale by people and government - both.
We have to solve our specific problems and should have a vision for inclusive and sustainable growth and development.
India's growth to Akon is good, but not satisfactory, and the need for infrastructural changes is needed, as this progress continues to a certain extent, and it is necessary to re-establish the necessary conditions for further expansion.
INDIA is having a stable growth in Human Capital for the last 25 years. Is INDIA going to be the BRICS´ best economy?
