Universities, in general, has different stakeholders. But at the end, there should be a value added in increasing knowledge and improving skills. Education is the main added value.

Education is, at the end of the day, the pursuit of knowing. Historically-speaking, man first endeavored on this quest for (a) practical means and (b) pursuit of immortality - knowledge of God. It seems to me that while practicality is beneficial for the here and now, a finite being is utterly unfulfilled without exploring the deepest and most significant questions of existence - where did I come from (origins), why am I here (purpose), where am I going (destiny)? Those philosophical questions while not the main focus in today's ultra-practical society are, in my philosophical view, of much more value than mere skill development.
