It would be great if someone can provide references about the types of habitats where the dioiceus Hydrilla verticillata is found in its native range. I found several papers with this information, but they are very general. I would like to know if H. verticillata evolved in river-floodplain ecosystems, in lakes not linked to rivers or in both types of habitats. Many thanks.

We have issues with Hydrilla in some lakes. It seems to favor warm water summer period with more sunlight. I have not noticed it in flowing or black water streams. Draining and mechanical treatment, burning can be costly. Some use herbicides. Sterile grass carp can be pretty effective. Where it originated and evolved may have some aquatic or other species that keep it in check.
