The question about homosexuality is largely a thought-provoking subject of taboo in Indian civil society. homosexuality; in Indian culture since pre-historic times, as visualized in different forms of art, homosexuals are not acknowledged as a separate identity in India and depicted as abnormal human beings. It is treated as a social taboo in many of the countries.
I think it is important to acknowledge the concept of homosexuality first as a human being and then develop your understanding from an academic point of view (which I think is extremely critical for academic professionals). In my understanding, the prejudice exists because of lack of clarity on the subject. As academics, we should consider this not only as a matter of academic integrity but also endeavour to integrate these discussions in our talks and writing. The issue requires mainstreaming so that it can get normalized in the social fabric. For instance, as a teacher in the space of 'media and culture studies', I always try to confront one social taboo or stereotype in every class.
