Often times, researchers use OECD database to assess development aid to recipient countries in developing countries. However, tracking and following the disbursements of donor funds in-country is problematic considering that majority of donors don't use the public finance management systems of recipient countries for various reasons. In estimating the actual funds deployed as aid in recipient countries, what assumptions and statistical considerations should one take into account while extracting and comparing data available in-country with those reported by donors?
From personal experience, I want to suggest the use of donors figure as reported by OECD. Many times Country specific Data may not be too reliable. Using authentic published data from reputable data bank may lead to better Reserch conclusions.

Like Prof Akintoye rightly said, why not use OECD database or world data bank which is reliable base on the fact that it is an international data bank used allover the world by researchers instead of using country's data.
Thanks Prof Akintoye and Jerry...I sure will use the OECD and other reliable databases as suggested. It also brings to the fore, the data challenges we face in Africa, as in resource tracking, we're to follow the money through the path till it gets to the end user in Nigeria...but this obviously not possible for now.
While suggesting to use World Bank or OCED data on aid to education, the answers also bring to the fore the limitations of National data bases on education. Though use of world bank and OCED data may serve the purpose at hand but one need to focus on improving the capacity national education systems to provide good quality data.
