Considering the flow through CDI process (capacitive desalination) for water purification, why the electrodes are more important than the electrolyte (spacer)? I think there are similarities between the CDI and batteries, so the electrolyte nature should play an important role for increasing the efficiency of the whole process. But according to my researches in this case, most of the scientists are working on the electrodes, why?
Do you have any experience of working on the electrolyte nature or not?

I did not use this technology, but chemically speaking, you are correct, if I understand well, the electrode is soaked with the electrolyte which helps to carry on the ions of the processed solution through the microporous of the electrodes, and improve the movility of the electrolyte, so you will improve the rate of the process, but not its efficiency, as capacity of ionc removal, because de constraint is about the capacity of electrosorption and it only depends of the surface area of the electrode. The aim of this process is water purification, so the feed water quality is not in your control as you change it how is your perfect. In other words; it is not good idea to modify the condition of a large quantity of the feed water as you want. Hence, most of researchers focus on the electrode as the parts that are completely in their control.

Indeed my main question was attributed to the spacer (I called it electrolye).
