According to ESSS, source document types for bibliometric analysis must only consider citable items, which are "research articles, short communications and notes, letters, reviews, and proceedings papers". But I would like to know what makes meeting abstracts different citable items from proceedings papers in terms of bibliometric analysis, which is why they are not considered as original research output.
