We have different measurement files with different RF attenuator settings and we are backtracking the process from receive power to transmit power using Friis transmission equation. One power correction we have done which is cable loss. My question is do we need to consider the RF attenuator value of the spectrum analyzer?
Built in attenuator (or pre-amplifier) setting in a spectrum analyzer is automatically factored in the measurement value shown by the instrument and neednot be considered.
To find out, change the attenuator setting and see if the power readout changes.
If your noise is more than 20 dB below the signal then the accuracy of the equipment is probably worse than the change from the added noise power. Microwave power measurements are surprisingly inaccurate even using good-quality instruments.
