I know how to do a GT approach but finding it difficult to integrate the two. I'm using semi-structured interviews to research the impact of the Chinese political system on the ability of MNCs to effectively operate in Hong Kong.

I am confused by all your postings that want to combine various alternative approaches with Grounded Theory. GT by itself is hard enough, so why you want to make connections with other approaches that don't really fit with GT is not clear to me.
Can you give us some more information on why GT alone is not sufficient for what you are trying to accomplish?
I agree with David L Morgan; I don't understand why you want to do this. Phenomenology looks for the meaning individuals place on a phenomena. GT looks to develop an explanatory theory. Personally, I would stick to one approach or the other.

The real issue is how appropriate either of these methods is for your purposes. From what you have told us so far, your research questions seem to be distant from the personal lives of your participants to be a good match to phenomenology.
Again, I agree with David L Morgan; how appropriate a method is to your research question is what is important.
If I was interested in lived experience, I'd use phenomenology. If I was looking to produce a theory of a social process, I'd use GT. I can't offer any more help really. Good luck with your research, I hope it goes well.
Janet Blain David L Morgan well thank you for the help. Will definitely reconsider the approach and will speak to my supervisor. It definitely seems like the integrated approach is over complicated and not correct. Would you suggest having a specific philosophical approach ? I was going down the route of the interpretive paradigm. Any thoughts ?
As a method, I would recommend Charmaz's (2014) Constructivist Grounded Theory. That would put you in a constructivist paradigm, which in the US would be considered equivalent to an interpretive approach, but things may be different where you are.
In my view GT is a methodology. It helps to conceptualize empirical data. Phenomenology is a theoretical perspective. It helps to develop research questions. In my opinion they can be combined.
