Arthroscopic debridement is no better than placebo treatment (physical therapy) even in patients with mechanical symptoms. There is enough good evidence in support of this.
I agree that arthroscopic debridement is no better than conservative treatment. Additionally, anxiety and depression are significantly reduced in patients with conservative treatment. According to my experience the long term effects of arthroscopic debridement are disappointing and in many cases result in secondary osteoarthritis.
Perhaps more gentle maneuvers during the arthroscopic meniscectomy and limitations of the procedure focusing only to the meniscal tear could have better results.
