I am planning to conduct a survey to understand the sense of belonging amongst a large workforce spread over many sites in different geographcial locations and I am not sure of which instruments would be best.
I have used school belonging surveys for use with students but not in an non-eduational environment.

I suggest to use an online tool supported by a YouTube video. The CEO or the owner or the leader or the initiator should announce the survey. The email about the survey with the video link and the survey link should be sent out by the top leader. Using other communication opportunities is also advised (intranet site, internet, cascaded information via leaders). In the video and communication, the goal of the survey, the benefit for the employees, the commitment of the leading team, the voluntary basis, and the anonymity should be emphasized for the buy in and the proper response rate.
There are tools for online data collection: Qualtrics, Survey Monkey, Google forms.
Also, some people could be interviewed (whose opinion or knowledge is the most significant). To fill the survey on paper and send it back to a 3rd party mail address (anonymity) should be allowed as well.

As to type of scale to be used in survey: 5 point Likert scale.

thanks for those answers. We are quite clear about how we are going to administer the instruments but finding the correct and most apt instrument is what we are trying to find
