In ion irradiation, people reported ejection of atoms in sputtering. But in case of sputtering, can we explain sputtering using shock waves and how can ion irradiation generate shock waves? Can it affect the size of nanopaticles which is embedded in matrix?

Dear Dr Singh You can of course ask and I will try to answer. I note however that your query is worded in a way that is the inverse of what we are describing. We talk about shock waves under cluster ion bombardment, not of their role in cluster emission. The clusters are independently formed in a special cluster ion generator. So I am not sure that we are talking about the same thing, but I hope that this is just a wording issue. The shock waves have a role in forming special surface features.
