In EViews, how can I convert quarterly data to monthly data? Which option should I select from the 'Low to High Frequency' tab? 'Quadratic,' 'Specified,' or something else? My data pertains to the GDP variable
The interpolation or allocation methods proposed by reviews are suggestive and are unlikely to lead to a series that reflects a monthly (real) GDP series. Read the relevant sections in the Eviews manual. Chapter 5 of volume 1. of the manual for version 12 contains an account of these routines. Applying these interpolation routines will lead to false dynamics in the interpolated variable. The usefulness of these routines depend on what you are trying to do.
If monthly GDP is required you might try to construct it from its components.
Y+C+I+G +X - M.
You may have monthly estimates of nominal G, X, and M. Apply a suitable deflator. You may find it possible to allocate C using Chow-Lin and suitable indicators (retail sales, employment, and other possible indicators appropriate to your country). You may deal with I with Chow-Lin and suitable indicators. This is a lot of work. Do not use indicators that may bias your results.
It's not recommended. However, to answer your question, copy the data you want to convert. Then, open another tab at the bottom. After that, paste it into the new tab. From there, you'll be prompted to change the frequency. The software will provide you with a list of options. Then, choose the one you want to convert to.
