Composite materials
volume fraction = volume of fiber /volume of composite
Weight fraction = weight of fiber / weight of composite
There is a direct relation between the fiber volume fraction and the fiber weight fraction.
The first one is equal to the second multiplied by the ratio of fiber density vs composite density.
Simply, if your equations require volumes, or if they require weights. No magic is there. Most "elastic and statics" relations require volumes, while dynamics properties require mass to be involved.
