I am reacting Basic oxygen furnace slag with aqueous sodium carbonate solution in order to get calcium carbonate and sodium hydroxide. I am analyzing the formation of calcium carbonate using TGA. When I use the fine slag particles (less than 180mirons), I get nearly 50% conversion of calcium oxide into calcium carbonate but whereas when I use slag particles with size range of 180microns to 4mm, I get conversion of only 6 to 7%.

My target is to increase the carbonation of coarser slag particles from 6% to at least 30 to 40 % if possible.

So far, I tried selective extraction technique so that the coarser particles become porous enough and yield higher carbonation but there was no success.

currently I am finding another way to pretreat the coarser slag without grinding it to enhance carbonation.

So, I would be glad to receive inputs for the above and do let know if the information is insufficient.

Thanks!
