Hello, I’m a 3rd-year student in metallurgical engineering. I’m trying to understand the microstructure of a hypo-eutectic cast iron with 3.2 wt% carbon at a temperature of 650°C.

I know this temperature is below the eutectoid point (727°C), so I expect a mixture of pearlite and graphite, but I’d like to know exactly what phases form and how they look under SEM/optical microscope.

Can anyone please help me with:

- An image of the microstructure at this condition (simulated or experimental)?

- A zoomed-in region from the iron-carbon phase diagram?

- Any software recommendation to simulate this?

Thank you in advance! 🙏
