I'm working on an independent study project analyzing how removing and feeding Goss's Wilt infested corn residue to beef cows will affect the amount of overwintering structures present in the residue and therefore further this process as a management method for controlling Goss's Wilt.
You know that Goss’s bacterial wilt and leaf blight was first identified in three fields in Dawson County near Lexington in 1969. Until few years ago the disease has not been a serious problem, but has appeared. The causal agent is Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. nebraskensis and is one of only several plant diseases caused by a Gram positive bacterium. The pathogen can cause two main types of symptoms, a systemic wilt and leaf blight. The leaf blight phase of the disease is the most common and can cause the development of lesions with wavy margins similar to some other diseases. Two characteristics can be used to distinguish it from other diseases.
