Sometimes farmers face hard times with less availability of urea for nurturing crops through top dressing. They are looking for other accessible, affordable alternative(s). What could be other options to recommend for farmers?
Ammonium nitrate is sometimes used in lieu of or combined with urea to compensate for volatile losses, because the form of nitrogen it contains is readily available for plant uptake. Ammonium sulfate is an alternate source of nitrogen content that also provides beneficial sulfur compounds to the soil.
Many organic fertilizers contain high amounts of nitrogen, and, most often, other minerals and nutrients too. Those that contribute nitrogen to soil in significant quantities include most composted manures.
Chemical fertilizer cannot replace with the organic source from the organic source rather we can supplement the nutrient requirement by organic source and so far the concerned the replacement of urea we have only a few options like Ammonium nitrates, Calcium ammonium nitrate, DAP etc.their concentration is lower in comparison to the Urea. Therefore instead, replacing the urea we should go to the optimization and customized use of nutrient sources,
I agree with Dr Tarfdar sir, there is need to use such innovative form of fertilizer nutrient for top dresing as substantial saving over conventional fertilizer FUE aalso increases. now time to use such nanomaterial.
Dr. Tarafdar, a good suggestion for using nano nitrogen. Do you have list of such approved products being marketed in India? If yes how many are such products allowed by the regulatory authority.
@ Suresh, in our laboratory at CAZRI we have produced biosynthesized nanonutrients of N, P, K, Mg, S, Fe, Zn, Mo and B during my service period. The regulatory authority now recently formed. At present, IFFCO is producing some of the nano-nutrients.
I would also recommend organic fertilizers as a source of N especially chicken manure, although the challenge may be on quantities. Chicken manure may be suitable for reasonable sized gardens. Other smallholder farmers in developing world have also used anthill soil where this resource is available.....
