But unfortunately not much comes from publishing and/or conducting academic researches in terms of income in atmosphere of plagiarism and minimal funding. Do you agree?
Thank you, Subir, for your clear thinking and submission that most scientists do not mind about that. If then they do not border being rich what do they concern themselves with?
Good answer, Subir, but without money, a scientist/researcher may not be able to function properly or operate to utmost maximum nor be able to work within a comfortable environment, do you agree?
Personally, my pursuance of improving the state of affairs in global communities is driven by my passion to change and make the world better. This satisfaction is more refreshing and rewarding to me than financial gains. Granted, the monetary gains are just secondary and not my priority. If it was, I would have sat idle, watching my country earthquaked by her problems because of lack of research funding . I know I have a calling to help in anyway I can to make our world better.
If money comes from publications then it is not bad. It will be good for the researchers if they get some money from publishing house. So that they can carry out better research.
Artur, other than riches what do you consider as the true success or value of life? In other words, why do people choose to be a professor or a researcher?
Artur,as a matter of fact, a few PhD holders make the millionaires list in our world, but moderate wealth. What then should be the motivation for pursuit of knowledge instead of wealth.
Artur, your explanation is correct, however, I am from a society that only regards material acquisitions driving jeeps and best cars, build upstairs and other houses, float companies, can kill people to occupy positions in society , people would want to rise to ranks via politics or other shortcuts and if you dare oppose them they use blackmail, assassination threats/bids etc to cow you down, so many evil means to try to silence you, in such circumstances what would you advice for the righteous or sincere person to do? This is a serious issue even among learned people! God have mercy!
Arben, I mean it is easier to market findings/discoveries from research in pure sciences compared to social or management sciences where plagiarism is rampant. Please comment further.
People who are interested in riches do not go into the science. Science sometimes makes it possible to exist normally, but not more. In this sense, industry and especially business are much more promising. To get money, you have to sell something. In science, you can sell your own knowledge only, but this rarely pays off. It is much more fruitful to sell other people's knowledge. However, science has other advantages. As they said in the former USSR: "Science is a way of satisfying one's own curiosity at someone else's expense." I know people who even pay in critical situations in order to be in science. Therefore, if you want to become truly rich, you must choose a different type of activity.
Dear Vadim Gorshkor, your view that people who are interested in riches do not go into science, that is, should not opt for research, publish and become professors, why do you suggest so? Why then do people still choose to go into an area with moderate financial reward like becoming a professor or engaging in research activities with little to show for it financially? Again, you said, science has other advantages, what are these advantages?
I now understand that if I want to make money and behave like pigs I will leave academic not go a PhD and go do business or join politics to make money via corrupt practices ads politician do in my clime and probably join some secret associations/cults! Artur, do you agree with me?
