Paulo Freire (2009) contends "all education is political" and taking into account the educational nature/value of research; what role do you see research playing in today's politicized social world? I am not asking for the ideal role research can play but your thoughts about the role research is currently playing and its effects within today's political environment?
What do you mean by "political environment"? I can only quote examples from my country. Most of social research concerning management in cultural institution (even in other spheres) stay what they are, I mean a report (just a peace of paper), without implementing results into policy or contributing to social change. However I still believe that every drop of water shapes the stone.
Here in the States we have noticed a shift to were research money is being funneled. Nemely to companies who provide curriculums for " back to basics studies" while progressive based research are going unfunded.
Also much of this shift in focus is government funding, which as you know is political and ideologically driven.
I am sorry if my question was not clear.

Even though some researches are founded by government agents or directly by governments, it doesn't , in most cases, cause any shift in policies and any conclusions aren't drawn.
