This is a very difficult subject and has a lot of if's and but's, but still we have many issues with children being abused, suffering malnutrition and living in poverty, my question is Why? We live in a world that advocate's contraception and feel there is a real need to have more effective education. If abortion is criminalised will this cause growth in the atrocities that children have to bare?

Yea, I think there are broader issues here as well. Catholic cultures tend not to promote abortion except for exceptional cases. That's why the Irish vote was so welcome. And illegal abortions can do terrible harm to women, including kill them. But the unwanted children are very likely to suffer if abortion is banned. I have a female friend who is generally quite strongly anti-abortion, but she struggles to square this with the harm to be suffered by unwanted children. I think this puts the unwanted child first, rather than the pregnant women. I don't quite know how that sits with more usual views on the issue?

if abortion become a criminal case, no doubt many children will face different problems. not only children but also their mum. if a woman choose to abort there is why she choose this. example is poverty, not well prepared for the baby .... now many of them will die due to abortion without assistance from trained personnel and this will increase maternal mortality. i think governments need to study this problem to protect life of women as well of children
I think the answer could be None. The woman can go online and buy CYTOTEC/MISOPROSTOL and it will be delivered by mail in 3 days and she can take it and the unwanted fetus is aborted. And there could be doctors willing to stock it and provide it to women who want to miscarry. Since Misoprostol works, there is no more issue about banning abortion. The only issue is making sure all women know there is a pill that causes abortions if they take it early enough. Abortion is pretty obsolete.

Thank you for your reply, this is were education is needed, so people are aware of other options, and that it is not going to be seen as form of birth control. I am aware that education is available in schools and colleges, but I would like to see more in depth knowledgebase covering the many aspects of their actions. My granddaughter is 17 and she was not aware of the ability to get an abortion pill, we as a family have had to explain this to her.
Yea, obviously Judy's first rate knowledge is wholly compatible with Susan's desire for the spread of that knowledge. I seem to remember getting very little sex education at school, yet the girls seemed to know a lot more. The only different education they got was something called "Home Economics". I wonder if they learned it there? Still, two did get pregnant at 15-16. One married, miscarried, divorced in the space of a few months! The other's parents demanded she abort and kept her well away from males for many years. I was friends with both, and thought them to be amongst the brightest. I guess this shows the need for the very best quality sex education for all?

Cytotec/Misoprostol is a prescription medication, although websites sell it but that is a function of the internet. The main "risk" is it only results in miscarriage in 95% of cases on first try. Why do you use the term potential risk? Wouldn't side effects, like dizziness or stomach ache- aren't those side effects, not risks? I mean we are talking about a woman who needs to get rid of an unwanted pregnancy which if born will be an earth shaking risk to her well being. I think your use of the term POTENTIAL RISKS in unnecessarily vague and offputting.
I think that's terribly unkind, possible even plain rude. As far as I know, Susan's concern is rather more sociological than detailing the medical side of things, in language familiar to you not her! If I'm wrong, I'm sure she will correct me...

As I have been an IT manger for many years I found that people squirm at long conflicted descriptions. As a masters student in psychology I found the need to talk in layman's terms for people to understand what I may be talking about in a classroom. I am aware of the difference between side effects and potential risks, but most people also know what side effects are but potential risks are seen as adverse effects that are not intended and these do occur not just with abortion drugs but with many others - the unknown factor. I am not a chemist or doctor so medicines are not my field.
I have been working with people from all walks of life for a lot longer than you have and not everyone is as well educated as you seem to be, except for manners of course, and everyone uses their own terminology and only when work closely with people can you understand that, not everyone portrays there knowledge as you do thankfully.

I wasn't going to answer such a childish reaction but I think maybe your country may need more educating than you think. I am more concerned and interested in how it would be better to be able to make a decision, by understanding what options are available before pregnancy, or if the person may think they could be, such as the morning after pill etc, which is available. Being a criminal act means abortion going underground and people die, I am a mother and grandmother and I have seen the consequences.
