Hi Stéphanie, you are putting a finger on a very important point. MRSA is the worst possible bacterial that you can suffer (in this case scenario).

To answer your questions it will be difficult for a patient infected to be asymptomatic or showing no signs of infection in presence of MRSA. For exemple if the infection attacks the hair follicle after some time you will see sign of the infection appearing; and when such symptoms start appearing treatament must be immediate. If treatment is delay the bacterial will start to disseminate (spreading to others tissues and organs) and the worst case scenarios is that the infection (bacteria) reache the bloodstream with risk like abscess, endocartitis, pneumonia cause by Staph.

All this to say that when an infection (involving MRSA or even sensitive SA) is still local start the treatament using an appropiate ATB.

Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is a type of drug-resistant staph infection. MRSA most commonly causes relatively mild skin infections that are easily treated. However, if MRSA gets into your bloodstream, it can cause infections in other organs like your heart, which is called endocarditis. It can also cause sepsis, which is the body’s overwhelming response to infection. If these situations occur and they aren’t or can’t be treated, it may lead to death from MRSA.

Anyone can get MRSA. The risk increases with activities or places that involve crowding, skin-to-skin contact, and shared equipment or supplies. Some of the people who carry MRSA can go on to get a MRSA infection. Non-intact skin, such as when there are abrasions or incisions, is often the site of an MRSA infection. Athletes, daycare and school students, military personnel in barracks, and those who receive inpatient medical care or have surgery or medical devices inserted in their body are at higher risk of MRSA infection. I would also like to add that this bacterium has a wonderful ability to adapt in various hosts, as it transfers from human to the animal and vice versa, and when it is transferred, it adapts itself to live with the new host by acquiring new virulence factors or other concealments that it does not need with the new hosts. This bacteria has proven itself as a comprehensive pathogen through the acquisition of many internal virulence factors or its secretion of toxins and enzymes, and the most important of these toxins are enterotoxins and PVL which work to kill white blood cells and thus weaken the body's immunity and SSSS which causes scalded skin syndrome which is a skin disease due to this toxin as it works to break the junctions between skin proteins. This bacteria can be found anywhere and it has the ability to mask the body’s immunity because it contains the capsule, and to hide from the Neutrophils of the blood. There are three types of it (HA- MRSA, CA-MRSA, LA-MRSA). In addition, it can continuously and because of the acquisition of genes from other nonpathogenic bacterial species that live in the environment be resistant to antimicrobials, such as S. epidermis and Vancomycin-resistant Enterococci. As well as the ability to biofilm formation increases the worst of the situation with this bacterium as making it not only resistant to different classes of antimicrobials but also highly resistant to various unfavorable environmental conditions.
