Dear Viji Viji sir the plant is bittergourd. and the symptoms is not like powdery mildew as you have mentioned because it is completely black and it is like excretion of something..... this was found in more than two locations...
Possibly It might be scale insect but what I found on the stem of bittergourd this year is totally different as I have shown in one of my questions earlier..can this show such variation or the stage of insect may have varied?? If this is scale insect then, what is remedial measures??
Scale insects have great variation in physical characteristics between life stages. Eggs, Crawlers (the young), adult females and adult males can all look different. If this is a scale then you have three substantial options: 1-pick them off with your fingers (not practical on a large scale); 2- Introduce and/or promote Bio-control with something like predatory like Ladybeetles or Mites or work with a Parasitoid (generally wasps); 3- Chemical control with a systemic insecticide (works when they have already attached and started feeding), topical insecticides work best at the crawler stage when the insect can physically contact it.
Photo ID is difficult- They could also be egg sacs or the pupal stage of something like a beetle. Do they squish and give off a fluid ?
Correct ID is paramount- Any chance that you can look at the under a scope ?
I would say "no" to galls because I don't see any leaf distortion (your one photo shows something sitting on the leaf) and galls are incorporated into the growing plant.
Sorry sir, this is one year back photo. So I do not have this now to check for any fluid coming or not or for any other options. If I find this situation now, I will surely check this out..
