A bare bones way to do it would be to take the density of structures per each ecological zone you have, and apply that density to whichever of those ecological zones are likely to be present in the km of unsurveyed area. Unless your data demonstrate that ecological conditions are not a driving factor in determining density of structures. If the latter is the case, figure out what factors correlate-e.g. is there a regular fall-off rate from the political center?
