In allocating feed ration in the culture of tilapia in a pond, it is vital that the actual biomass could be estimated. the weight of the fish could easily be determined but the number of surviving fish in the pond , i found no references describing this. Even tilapia culture manuals and books , i have not found any information on this. In shrimp culture biomass estimation techniques are well established. Can anyone from the field provide an information on the actual practice and techniques of how to estimate the surviving tilapia within a pond or a cage? if surviving tilapia is not determined the feed allocation and feeding rate could not be accurately determined , that could lead to disastrous consequence in terms of economics and water quality issues. Your help will be highly appreciated.
Average body weight (ABW) of the fish can be accessed by sampling. We should know the initial stocking density. Then on the basis of daily feed consumed we can estimate total biomass in the pond.
Krupesh Sawant hi sir , do you have any table guide if how much feed a particular size of tilapia could eat in a single feeding? example a 10 garms of fish, how much feed would it eat in a single meal? do you have any manuscript to refer on this? in shrimp, it is well documented but in tilapia , the references are not available.

As Krupesh wrote above, if you know how much you put in at start, and how they grew, then that minus what you took out should be close to what is left.

Lets see you gave stocked 15 garms each fish about 1000 pieces afterba month individual sampling indicates the fish grows to 25 grams. Now thevqyestion is how to determine the libing , surviving number of fish in the pond at 1 month? So that correct feed allocation will be applied. Usually in standard practice the feed allocation is restricted so it us rather inaccurate to use feed intake as a way to determine the number of survivors. That us ehy im sort of asking of any concrete , practical method to do this. Thanks
